The Virgin Media data breach may well be the biggest we will see in 2020, and it could be one of the biggest in terms of compensation actions in the UK.<\/p>\n

This breach has definitely seen a huge share of media coverage, much of which we have been at the centre of. How does it compare to others?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In terms of 2020 data breaches, the Virgin Media one appears to be one of the most publicised (if not the most) so far. It\u2019 huge news, and we have featured in national and local media talking about the rights of victims to claim.<\/p>\n

In terms of comparisons, the easiest one is the British Airways data breach compensation action. A Group Litigation Order (GLO) for the BA case was given the go ahead in October 2019, making it the first GDPR GLO in England and Wales. We\u2019re at the heart of that one too as we have been appointed with a seat on the Steering Committee that\u2019s responsible for the overall conduct of the action.<\/p>\n

If a GLO is established for the Virgin Media case, it may be the second one so far. However, it could be far bigger given there are around twice as many people affected. In addition, we have spoken to the media about potential estimated compensation amounts for both actions. The BA case could potentially lead to a \u00a33bn compensation pay-out in total, and the Virgin one could potentially lead to an estimated \u00a34.5bn pot.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n
